Our PhD Student’s Dissertation Ranked Among the Best in the Siemens Competition

The dissertation of our PhD student, Ing. Pavel Skopec, Ph.D., has been ranked among the top ten in the prestigious Werner von Siemens Award 2025, which annually recognizes the highest-quality student and scientific works in technical and natural science disciplines.

The awarded dissertation was carried out at the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, under the supervision of Miroslav Vyhlídal, who has long been engaged in the field of automatic control and its industrial applications.

Ing. Skopec’s research focuses on advanced control methods for continuous furnaces used in steel heating. These technologies play a key role in the metallurgical industry, where they directly influence the quality of the final material, energy consumption, and overall operational efficiency. Modern control approaches make it possible to optimize the heating process, minimize losses, and contribute to more sustainable industrial operations.

This achievement confirms not only the high academic quality of the dissertation itself, but also the excellence of doctoral studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, CTU, and the strong research background of the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, particularly in collaboration with industry. It also demonstrates that even traditional industrial topics can serve as a source of innovative solutions with a significant impact on current industry and future technological development.
