Pavel Skopec Selected as a Finalist of the Antonín Svoboda Award for the Best Ph.D. Thesis 2025

Ing. Pavel Skopec, Ph.D., from the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, CTU in Prague, has achieved a significant academic success. His dissertation has been selected among the finalists of the national Antonín Svoboda Award for the Best Ph.D. Thesis 2025, announced by the Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics.

Pavel reached the finals with his dissertation entitled Model-based predictive control for a distributed parameter system in a steel heating application: A study of optimal control for a continuous steel reheating furnace. The thesis focuses on model-based predictive control and optimization of technological processes, with a specific application in steel heating in continuous reheating furnaces.

At our department, Pavel Skopec is involved in automatic control, mathematical modelling, especially in the field of the metallurgical industry and heat transfer, and model-based control and optimization methods.

The Antonín Svoboda Award recognizes outstanding Ph.D. theses in cybernetics, informatics and related fields. The main evaluation criteria include the quality and originality of the thesis, its theoretical or practical contribution, and the professional profile of the applicant.
